Piper Miller

VP, Market Development

“Solar development is all about creative problem-solving. A wild idea might just be the idea that makes a project work – so having the willingness to be open-minded, vulnerable and inclusive of diverse viewpoints often yields powerful results!”

Having grown with the industry for the past ten years, Piper Miller, Vice President of Market Development for Pine Gate Renewables, now oversees development and commercial strategy for over 10 GW of utility-scale solar projects across the southeastern United States. She has spearheaded market and development opportunities, analyzed regulatory policies, and advised on siting and offtake strategies for portfolios of solar projects across nearly 15 states with the goal to build innovative strategies to bring clean energy online.

Piper’s background pulls deeply on program development and regulatory policy. In addition to Pine Gate Renewables, Piper has worked in the public sector as a sustainability professional, managing policy and program development for environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives in local government. She presents to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) staff and state regulatory commissions and regularly provides commentary on solar project development issues in national publications, including The New York Times. As an active mentor of women in solar development, she also frequently contributes comments on fostering female leadership in the industry.

Piper is an inherent creative in and out of work. A singer/songwriter for most of her life, she embraces the camaraderie of a good jam session as yet another opportunity to collaborate and riff with different voices. She currently lives in Asheville, NC drawing daily inspiration for what she does from the mountains and exploring local trails with her border collie, Bailey.
